A $2.6B+Mattress Startup Is Disrupting Silicon Valley

The only thing Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk can agree on is a $2.6 billion mattress company.

The rich have always been obsessed with optimizing their health. These days, billionaire antics feel more extreme than ever, from the cold plunge craze to billionaires trying to reverse their aging.

However, one mattress startup seems to be the biggest winner for billionaire health purchases.

Co-founder couple Matteo Francetti and Alexander Zatarain started Eight Sleep because no tech companies were targeting Sleep with an atomical-level obsession.

After getting rejected by startup Y-Combinator, the founders raised 100,000 in crowdfunding to build a smart mattress cover designed to regulate one’s temperature throughout the night and claims to greatly improve one’s sleep.

After applying to Y Combinator again the founders finally succeeded in getting accepted by hauling a mattress into the Y Combinator offices and giving a live demonstration to the fund managers.

Since its acceptance, Eight Sleep has raised over $148 million at a near $3 billion valuation to be the Tesla of the Sleep industry.

While its mattress cover is insanely expensive at around $2,000, the product has found the right audience in Silicon Valley billionaires, as Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg are just two of the ultra-rich that rave about the product.
